"It was as if a strange alchemical process had dissolved her entire being in the rose petal sauce, in the tender flesh of the quails, in the wine, in every one of the meal's aromas. That was the way she entered Pedro's body, hot, voluptuous, perfumed, totally sensuous" (Esquivel 52). This quote goes with the theme of food or cooking because they are eating the quails in rose petal sauce as a family. The passion Tita uses when cooking is what makes her food so lively and full of power. She has so much love and want when making the food that once you eat the food you feel sexual in different ways. And the desire between Tita and Pedro that turns the act of eating into a sexual action.

The song I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor has a theme of Femininity like the novel Like Water for Chocolate. The song is about a breakup and how the writer was able to get the personal strength to get over it. The writer lyrics read "I Will Survive" which shows the personal strength she has to get over this boy and move on to be the best women she can be for herself. Laura Esquivel is a Mexican writer that is known for her novel Like Water for Chocolate from 1989. She was born on September 30, 1950 in Mexico. Laura is a educator, journalist, author, and a screenwriter. She realized that she wanted to become a writer in the 1970s when she was teaching her kindergarten class because she would write plays for her students. She has a vivd writing style because when talking about her food she uses the sensory images like the use of smell, taste, and sound to explain her food and the passion she has for cooking. And she also uses hyperbolic statements in her style because she uses a lot of exaggerated words and scenes to explain the main events in her life during the novel. In 1992, she was the winner of the Silver Ariel for the best screenplay in Like Water for Chocolate.
