What indicates a good and bad battery on the RPG?

The RPG lets off three chirps at start up. Green LED light indicates a good battery and red indicates a battery that needs to be replaced.

After the clear resin coat is put on the cylinder what is the last and final process for the cylinder?

The cylinder is sanded and gel coated by hand before being placed under UV lamps for the last bit of the curing process.

what protects the valve from damage?

The valve has an electrometric (rubber designed to absorb an impact) bumper on the end to protect the valve from damage.

What is the purpose of the frangible disk in the valve assembly? what is it made out of? when is it rated to burst?

There is also a tridimensional frangible disk made out of rosewood steel. Appears as a nut on the valve, consist of a copper wafer. The frangible disk prevents over pressurization of the cylinder. The disk is rated to burst at 7500 PSI.

what is the pressure at on the pressure reducer assembly when there is flow?

WITH flow = 55 psi @ 400LPM

how do you know when to replace the pak alert batteries?

When the battery needs to be replaced the alarm will chirp every few seconds until the battery is replaced.

a purge valve which can be used as a defogger or for emergency air. Furthermore, the purge valve delivers air at 125-175 LPM.

a. The pressure reducer is made of an aluminum alloy. The pressure reducer is made to reduce the pressure from 4500 psi to a breathable pressure

What two testing process do cylinders go through?

1 out of every 200 cylinders are stress tested where they are filled and emptied over and over again. Also 1 of every 200 cylinders are burst tested, where they pressurize the cylinder until it fails, usually around 19000 psi.

What defines an IDLH environment?

1-Harmful exposure- Any environment that is oxygen deficient, O2 below 19.5 %, exposure to dust, fumes, mists, vapors chemicals or gases. 2- Hazardous environment- A place where a firefighter can be exposed to physical or mechanical hazards which are likely to cause injury. 3- Hazardous substance- one by which by reason of being explosive, flammable, poisonous, corrosive, oxidizing, irritant, or otherwise harmful.

Air pack 50 is made from ionized aluminum. It is contoured to fit the users back. The lower portion of the frame has the cylinder hanger bracket. Towards the middle is the side mounting bracket for the pressure regulator. The straps are made from Kevlar and consist of alligator slips and a buckle for the waste strap.

Aluminum liner is 20% strength wrap is 80%. Without the wrap rupture @ 900 psi

Cabels. . Cables are protected in a steel braided casing that is approx 24inches long. Cables go from RIC/UAC to the RPG.

High pressure hose coupling.The coupling consist of a Teflon o ring and a hex fitting for loosening only

Hose supplies 85-110 psi if primary reducer is working and 145-165 if secondary reducer is working

RFD inventory number located on the neck of the cylinder. Starts with XX, representing the year the department purchased the cylinder, next three numbers are the number for this cylinder purchased this year.
