stress
causes crust to rise. C. Stress causes deformation (any change in the volume or shape of Earth's crust.) II. Types and Effects of Faults. A. A fault is a break in the Earths crust where slabs of crust slip past each other.
isostasy
is the state of gravitational equilibrium between Earth's crust and mantle such that the crust "floats" at an elevation that depends on its thickness and density of underlying roots of the low density of the mountain.
deformation
the action or process of changing in shape or distorting, especially through the application of pressure.
isostatic adjustment
refers to the transient (102−104 years) or long term (> 105 years) nonelastic response of the earth's lithosphere to loading and unloading due to erosion, deposition, water loading, desiccation, ice accumulation, and deglaciation.
