Opposite Number

Opposite number or additive inverse of any number (n) is a number which, if added to n, results in 0

Cartseian Coordinate Plane

A Cartesian coordinate system is a coordinate system that specifies each point uniquely in a plane by a pair of numerical coordinates, which are the signed distances to the point from two fixed perpendicular directed lines, measured in the same unit of length.

Natural Numbers

A natural number is a number that occurs commonly and obviously in nature. As such, it is a whole, non-negative number. The set of natural numbers, denoted N, can be defined in either of two ways: N = {0, 1, 2, 3, ...}

Zero Pair

A pair of numbers whose sum is zero, e.g. +1, -1. • used to illustrate addition and subtraction problems. with positive and negative integers.

Polygon

A plane figure with at least three straight sides and angles, and typically five or more.

Positive Number

A positive number is a number that is bigger than zero. A positive number can be written with a "+" symbol in front of it, or just as a number. For example, "+3" is a positive number. Also "2" is a positive number.

Repeating Decimal

A repeating decimal is a decimal that has a digit, or a block of digits, that repeat over and over and over again without ever ending. Did you know that all repeating decimals can be rewritten as fractions?

Terminating Decimal

A terminating decimal is a decimal that ends. It's a decimal with a finite number of digits.

Absouloute Value

Absolute value describes the distance of a number on the number line from 0 without considering which direction from zero the number lies. The absolute value of a number is never negative.

X-Axis

Also called axis of abscissas. (in a plane Cartesian coordinate system) the axis, usually horizontal, along which the abscissa is measured and from which the ordinate is measured. 2. (in a three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system) the axis along which values of x are measured and at which both y and z equal zero.

Sign

An object, quality, or event whose presence or occurrence indicates the probable presence or occurrence of something else.

Ordered Pair

An ordered pair is a pair of numbers used to locate a point on a coordinate plane; the first number tells how far to move horizontally and the second number tells how far to move vertically.

Long Division

Arithmetical division in which the divisor has two or more figures, and a series of steps is made as successive groups of digits of the dividend are divided by the divisor, to avoid excessive mental calculation.

Quadrant

Each of four parts of a plane, sphere, space, or body divided by two lines or planes at right angles

Multiplicative Inverse

In mathematics, a multiplicative inverse or reciprocal for a number x, denoted by 1/x or x−1, is a number which when multiplied by x yields the multiplicative identity, 1. The multiplicative inverse of a fraction a/b is b/a. For the multiplicative inverse of a real number, divide 1 by the number.

Negative Numbers

In mathematics, a negative number is a real number that is less than zero. Negative numbers represent opposites. If positive represents movement to the right, negative represents movement to the left.

Rational Number

In mathematics, a rational number is any number that can be expressed as the quotient or fraction p/q of two integers, a numerator p and a non-zero denominator q. Since q may be equal to 1, every integer is a rational number.

Inequality

In mathematics, an inequality is a relation that holds between two values when they are different.

Additive Inverse

In mathematics, the additive inverse of a number a is the number that, when added to a, yields zero. This number is also known as the opposite (number), sign change, and negation. For a real number, it reverses its sign: the opposite to a positive number is negative, and the opposite to a negative number is positive.

Distance

The amount of space between two things or people.

Coordinates

The coordinates are often chosen such that one of the numbers represents vertical position, and two or three of the numbers represent horizontal position. A common choice of coordinates is latitude, longitude and elevation.

Magnitude

The great size or extent of something.

X-Coordinate

The horizontal value in a pair of coordinates: how far along the point is. The X Coordinate is always written first in an ordered pair of coordinates (x,y), such as (12,5). In this example, the value "12" is the X Coordinate. Also called "Abscissa"

Origin

The point or place where something begins, arises, or is derived

Y-Axis

The secondary or vertical axis of a system of coordinates, points along which have a value of zero for all other coordinates.

Y-Coordinate

Usually, the y-coordinate is the second number in that pair, so in the ordered pair (-1,3), the y-coordinate would be 3. This value tells you how far a point is from the origin, or starting point, in the y direction on a two-dimensional graph.

Integers

Whole numbers less than zero are called negative integers. The integer zero is neither positive nor negative, and has no sign. Two integers are opposites if they are each the same distance away from zero, but on opposite sides of the number line. Positive integers can be written with or without a sign.
