What structures were you able to see in both types of cells?
Both the nucleus and cell membrane were visible in both types of cells. The cell wall was ONLY visible in the onion cell.
In class and in your reading you learned that one difference between plant and animal cells is that plant cells contain chloroplasts. Were any chloroplasts visible in the onion cells? Why or why not? Explain your reasoning.
Chloroplasts were not visible in the onion cells the onion cells are from an onion bulb, which grows underground. There is no light underground which results in no need for a chioroplast.
Epithelial Cell: How is the shape of this cell related to its function?
Epithelial cells are stacked and fit next to one another perfectly which allows for skin to form a protective layer around the body.
Both plant cells and animal cells contain mitochondrion and yet there were not visible in the cells you viewed in this lab. Does this mean that these organelles are not found in cheek and onion cells? Why or why not? Explain your reasoning
Mitochondrion were not visible because they are to0 small to be seen with our microscopes. Mitochondrion ARE PRESENT in both cell, but were not visible to us in the lab.
Nerve Cell: How is the shape of this cell related to its function?
Nerve cells are long to transmit messages in the body
Which cells seem to be arranged in a more regular pattern?
Onion cells are arranged in a more regular pattern.
Red Blood Cell: How is the shape of this cell related to its function?
Red blood cells are disk shaped to move through blood vessels.
How does the shape of the onion cells differ that of the cheek cells?
The shape of the onion cells is more structured than cheek cells. Onion cells have a more defined shape.
eukaryote cells
onion and cheek cells
