interactional model

Wilbur Schramm; two directions- send to receiver, receiver to sender; ongoing process; feedback(internal and external)

between members of a task group with a similar goal

organizational

communication amongst a large environments with hierarchy (Ex: DCCC)

Intrapersonal

communication with ourselves (Ex: day dreaming, imaging and perceiving)

message(verbal or nonverbal), sender, receiver, channel

I-It Communication

do not acknowledge humanity of other people, look at people as instruments

effective skill to secure goal or objective, emotional and well-being

evolves over time (feature of interpersonal communication)

transactional model

giving and receiving messages is simultaneous and mutual; cooperative( send and receiver are both responsible for effective communication)

Selective

invest risk and effort with few people, i-it level (feature of interpersonal communication)

mass

large audience through a mediated channel (Ex: television, radio, internet, newspaper)

I-You Communication

majority of interactions, do not fully engage each other as unique, small talk

public

one person giving a speech to a large audience, also referred to as public speaking

needs of hierarchy

self actualization, self esteem, love and belonging, safety and security, physiological needs

linear model

sender, message, receive & channel

Systematic

various systems, contexts that influence what happens,noise (feature of interpersonal communication)
