Herero Wars
Series of wars between Germany and native Herero people living in the German controlled colonial regions south western Africa. When German colonists began taking many of the native lands the locals revolted. German colonials were brutal in their response ordering every male Herero killed. Prisoners were put into harsh work camps and approx. 100.000 natives were killed. In 2004 the German government apologized to the survivors of the Herero people.
Franco-Prussian War
This was a major war between the French and the Germans in 1871 that brought about the unification of Germany. It was caused by Otto Von Bismarck altering a telegram from the Prussian King to provoke the French into attacking Prussia, thus hoping to get the independent German states to unify with Prussia (which they did, thus creating Germany).
