Variable Practice.

- A skill is practised in many environments. - The practice conditions must be as realistic as possible. - Techniques are adapted to suit the environment.

Fixed Practice.

- A specific movement pattern is practised repeatedly in the same stable environment. - Allows movement patterns to be overlearned and become habitual.

Distributive Practice.

- Practice sessions have rest intervals included, - Rest intervals allow time to recover both mentally and physically. - Research has shown this to be the most effective form of practice.

Massed Practice,

- Practiced continuously without any rest or intervals. - Practice sessions are usually long. - Used to stimulate performance conditions when there is an element of fatigue.

Example Of Variable Practice.

4 vs 5 passing practice in football/hockey- passing, support and positional play will be developed.

Example Of Massed Practice.

Basketball players practicing their shooting skills by doing drills which involve many shots from different positions around the 'D'.

Example Of Fixed Practice.

Discuss thrower practises in the discus circle and uses repetitive practices because the environment they perform in never changes.

Example Of Distributive Practice.

The learner in the swimming pool swims a width of the pool and then rests while the teacher gives them some feedback,
