Face and Neck Regions
the ala of the nose
The wing of the nose or outer edge of the nostril
temporomandibular joint (TMJ)
This is the location where the upper skull forms a joint with the lower jaw the joint between the temporal bone and the mandible
angle of mandible
a bony angle formed by the junction of the posterior edge of the ramus of the mandible and the inferior surface of the body of the mandible; marks widest part of lower 1/3 of face. The sharp angle of the lower jaw inferior to the earlobe
The deep nodes of the head drain into the:
deep cervical nodes
Deep nodes of the head
deep parotid and retropharyngeal; do not palpate since so deep
deep cervical nodes
deep under the sternomastoid muscle
parotid salivary gland
has a small part that can be palpated in the buccal region as well as in the zygomatic region.
Oral Region of face
has many structures within it, such as the lips and oral cavity. The upper and lower lips are fleshy folds that mark the gateway of the oral cavity proper.
nostril or naris (plural, nares)
inferior to the apex on each side of the nose
infraorbital region of face
inferior to the orbital region and lateral to the nasal region
Nasal Region of the Face
is the external nose. The root of the nose is located between the eyes ,and the tip is the apex of the nose.
The zygomatic arch extends from
just below the lateral margin of the eye toward the middle part of the external ear.
The root of the nose
located between the eyes the apex (top) of the pyramidal mass of the nose which lies directly inferior to the forehead;
The infraorbital region of the face is located
located inferior (below) to the orbital region and lateral (further from midline) to the nasal region
Superficial nodes of the head
occipital, retroauricular, anterior auricular, superficial parotid, and facial
zygomatic region
overlies the cheekbone and contain zygomatic arch -zygomatic region ,which overlies the bony support for the cheek ,the zygomatic arch.
the external nose
region of the nose that is easily visible to others
the buccal region of the face is composed of
soft tissue of the cheek
orbital region of face
the eyeball and all of its supporting structures are contained in the orbit of the skull which is the bony eye socket.
The regions of the face include
the frontal, orbital, nasal, infraorbital, zygomatic, buccal, oral, and mental regions.
masseter muscle
the muscle that closes the mouth and is the major muscle involved in mastication (chewing) One of the muscles forming the cheek
The cheek forms
the side of the face and is the broad area between the nose, mouth, and ear
inferior to the zygomatic arch and just anterior to the external ear is
the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).
apex of nose
tip of the nose, formed from cartilage
The nares are also bounded laterally by
winglike cartilaginous structures, each ala(plural, alae) of the nose.
farther laterally than the infraorbital region is the ____ ____, which overlies the cheekbone
zygomatic region
The nares are separated by
Midline nasal septum of the nose.
The frontal region of the face
-forehead and area above the eyes -supraorbital ridge -glabella frontal eminence
