The tradition of what the American Flag means
The official symbol of the United States contains thirteen horizontal stripes, seven red alternating with six white. The represent the thirteen original colonies that banded together to declare their independence from England in 1776. In the upper corner near the staff is the blue field containing fifty, five-pointed white stars. These stars represent the fifty states taht make up the United States.
