If we lose this battle, the lives of our family, as well as the mercy of the redcoats, will be jeopardized.

Washigton's army reached a low point when just 5,000 individuals remained in the Continental army. This meant that people died as a result of fighting, disease, and starvation, giving the Patriots the appearance of being unable to win.

When the number of troops on either side was compared, the Patriots had only 20,000 individuals in their army, whereas the British had several more.
