How many variables is it necessary to control in order to conduct a fair test?

In order to conduct a fair experiment or test three variables should be controlled.

Solubility is a characteristic property of a substance. This means that the amount of a substance that dissolves in water is unique for that particular substance. Use what you know about the process of dissolving to explain why a substance would have its own characteristic solubility.

A substance would have its own characteristic solubility because it can rip apart the solute and attract it in more or less powerful ways depending on the substance.

What variable controls how much gas can dissolve in water

heat becquse as heat increases the reaction speeds up

polarity

how polar something is

increased temperature does what to the dissolving of molecules

it increases the speed in which it dissolves

Can gas be dissolved in water

yes for example carbon dioxide is polar so it dissolves in water which is also polar

Each substance has what Solubility

Characteristic

polar

Easily dissolvable or easily mixed

You may have heard the phrase "oil and water don't mix". Using what you know about atoms, molecules, and dissolving, explain why you think this might be.

Oil and water do not mix because oil does not have strong enough polarity to dissolve in water. The water cannot rip apart the oil's bonds because of oil's low polarity.

Do non polar molecules dissolve better or do polar molecules dissolve better

Polar molecules because they get ripped apart and retracted more easily this is how salt dissolves easily in water

Table salt is sodium chloride (NaCl) which is made up of sodium ions (Na+) and chlorine ions (Cl-). Use what you know about polar molecules to explain how table salt dissolves in water.

Salt dissolves in water because the negative electrons in water attract the positive electrons in salt and vise versa.

What is a substance being dissolved called

Solute when u mix table salt and water it is table salt

What causes a higher surface tension

Stronger attraction of the molecules at the surface cause higher surface tension

When you let the water evaporate from the solutions you made, the recrystallized substances all looked different. Explain on the molecular level why the substances look different when they recrystallize.

Substances look different when they recrystallize because they positives and negatives of each element are attracted to each other so the when they recrystallize the elements dissolve more and are more intermixed.

Based on what you've read or may have already known about oils, why does sugar not dissolve in mineral oil?

Sugar does not dissolve in oil because oil has low polarity. For example, the negative electrons of oil are not strong enough to rip apart the sugar bonds.

What parts of Elements are drawn to each other

The positive parts of one element are drawn to the negative part of the other and vise versa For example hydrogen is positive is attracted to oxygen which is negative

Why does increasing the temperature cause more solute to dissolve in a solvent?

The solute dissolves more because the higher temperature makes it easier for the solvent to break apart the solute and attract the positives and negatives.

Why does water dissolve salt more effectively than isopropyl alcohol does?

Water dissolves salt better than alcohol because water has positive protons and negative electrons that create a better polarity than alcohol's polarity. THus, the polarity of water rips apart and destroys the bonds of salt in order to dissolve it.

Can gas dissolve in water

Yes

Can polar liquids dissolve non polar liquids

no because the polar liquids can not rip apart the non polar liquids

What is the substance doing the dissolving called

solvent when u mix table salt and water it uis water

Endothermic

temp goes down bonds are broke and energy is lost

exothermic

temp rises
