Science: Habitats of Plants & Animals
Desert
A desert is another type of terrestrial habitat. It receives an extremely low amount of rain. It can be very hot during the daytime and very cold at night. Water is rare in the desert, which is why plants and animals living here have special body parts that allow them to live in extreme temperatures.
Forest
A type of terrestrial habitat and is a natural home for many wild animals and tall trees. The trees in forests have very dense leaves and limits the amount of sunlight that can get through. Forests are damp and dark, making it an ideal place for mosses, herbs, and ferns to grow.
Oasis
A waterhole or spring found in a desert.
Name some trees found in Philippine forests?
Acacia Apitong Yakal
How do animals survive in saltwater?
Animals that live in saltwater have skin and gills that can remove salt easily from their bodies.
Name some plants that grow in the desert.
Cactus Euphorbia
How do camels survive the in the desert?
Camels store fats in their back so they can go on long journeys even without drinking or eating.
Name some animals that live in grasslands.
Cow Carabao Horse
Two main types of aquatic habitats.
Freshwater Saltwater
Name some plants that grow in the polar regions.
Mosses Lichens Grasses Small Shrubs
Name some plants that are found in forests.

Nocturnal Animals
These animals go out and hunt for food at night to hide from bigger animals during the day. Some of them live in forests.
Terrestrial Habitats
These are animal and plant homes which are found on land.
Tropical rainforests
These are forests that receive rainfall regularly. The forests in the Philippines are called rainforests.
Polar Region
These are found in the north and south poles. They are very cold and are either covered with solid ice or very thick snow. Only few living things can survive in the polar regions.
Aquatic Habitat
These are homes of plants and animals that are found underwater.
What do grassland animals eat?
They eat grass. They usually have flat teeth so they can chew even tough parts of the grass.
How do these plants survive in the cold?
They grow clumped together so they can resist the cold and reduce the damage brought by ice and snow.
How do desert plants survive in the desert?
They have fleshy and waxy stems that store water for later use. Some also have spines for leaves which help reduce water loss.
How do polar animals survive in the cold?
They have thick layers of fat and fur to keep them warm and protected from the cold.
Grassland
This is a type of terrestrial habitat that has all types of grasses as well as scattered shrubs and small trees.

habitat
the natural home of living things. It is where living things can get or make their food, reproduce, and move around.
Hydroponics
this is a method of growing plants without soil. The plants are grown in water enriched with plant nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
