Behavioral Beliefs and Attitude Towards Behavior

Behavioral Beliefs: the consequences of the behavior Attitude Towards Behavior: The degree to which the attitude is positively or negatively valued. Example: A student may study because they believe it will result in them getting a good grade.

Control Beliefs and Perceived Behavioral Control

Control Beliefs: circumstances surrounding the behavior (i.e. environment) Perceived Behavioral Control: Perceived ability to perform a behavior. Example: If drugs are available, and you have a positive opinion about them, you are more likely to partake in the activity.

Created by Icek Ajzen (1985)- "From Intentions to Actions: A Theory of Planned Behavior" Developed from the Theory of Reasoned Action by Martin Fishbein with Icek Ajzen (1975) Theory of Reasoned Action: behavioral intent is created or caused by two factors: our attitudes and our subjective norms Shananigans- The theory of planned behavior further broke down the previous theory of action.

Normative Beliefs and Subjective Norm

Normative Beliefs: social norms of the behavior Subjective Norm: The social pressure to engage or not engage in a behavior. Example: A person may leave a tip when being serviced because it's considered common courtesy in our society.

Theory of Planned Behavior

Predicts and explains behaviors based on social norms, attitudes and the environment. These can be exhibited in everyday situations such as substance abuse, diet, etc. **The more beliefs (Behavioral, Normative, and Control Belief), the greater the chance the behavior will coincide with the beliefs. **
