-"heaven on earth" -mentioned most prominently in Revelation 21, when the recorded history of man is at its end -also known as the Tabernacle of God, the Holy City, the City of God, the Celestial City, the City Foursquare, and Heavenly Jerusalem -God gives both heaven and earth a makeover and new jerusalem comes out of the heavens

Pentecost

-The day of Pentecost is noted in the Christian Church as the day on which the Spirit descended upon the apostles, and on which, under Peter's preaching, so many thousands were converted in Jerusalem -While the apostles had experienced a measure of the Spirit's power before (John 20:22), now He would come to dwell in them permanently (John 7:37-39; 14:17).

Judas

-The kiss of Judas (betrayal of Christ) The kiss is given by Judas in the Garden of Gethsemane after the last supper -The 30 silver coins are what Judas received for turning in Jesus -Death: After he turned christ in, Judas returned the money to the priests and then hung himself. The money was used to buy Potter's field

Saul (Paul)

-an apostle (though not one of the Twelve Apostles) who taught the gospel of the Christ to the first century world -a Jew from the tribe of Benjamin, came from the city of Tarsus -wrote epistles -used to persecute the early followers of Jesus, but then converted and went on to found many churches

Last Supper - bread and wine

-final meal Jesus shared with his Apostles in Jerusalem before his crucifixion. All four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) state that it takes place towards the end of the week after Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. -during meal, Jesus predicts his betrayal by one of the Apostles and foretells that the next morning Peter will deny knowing him three times before a rooster crowed next morning -the Synoptic Gospels (the three not including John) account the institution of the Eucharist in which Jesus takes bread (his body) and wine (his blood) and gives it to his disciples -John doesn't mention this but includes Jesus' washing the feet of the Apostles

Garden of Gethsemane

-garden at the foot of Mount of Olives in Jerusalem most famous as the place where Jesus prayed and his disciples slept the night before his crucifixion. Also referred to as the site where the agony in the garden took place

Pontius Pilate - "What is truth?" And hand washing

-governor of Judea that overlooked the trial and crucifixion of Jesus. Found no fault in Jesus at all but the unruly crowd eventually forced him to give in. -in John, Jesus confirms his kingship but immediately explains that his kingdom was "not of this world" and describes that his mission is to "bear witness to the truth" and for those on the side of truth to listen to his voice -in Matthew, before he condemns Jesus, Pilate washes his hands in front of the crowd and says he is innocent of the man's blood

Armageddon

-the battle in Revelation -the final war between human governments and God. These governments and their supporters oppose God even now by refusing to submit to his rulership. The battle of Armageddon will bring human rulership to an end. -is connected to the second coming because Jesus leads God's heavenly army against God's enemies and this is when he returns

Golgatha and Calvary - The crucifixion, accompanying signs, and the last words of Jesus

-the site just outside Jerusalem's walls where Jesus was said to have been crucified

-when Jesus Christ will return to earth in fulfillment of His promises and to fulfill the prophecies made about Him. -the literal return of Jesus Christ to earth as King in power and glory to rule for a thousand years (Revelation 20:1-6) -To doubt the reality of the Second Coming is to doubt the reliability and validity of God's Word -Jesus himself promised it

Walking on water

After feeding the 5000, Jesus sends his disciples ahead of him in a boat to cross the Sea of Galilee. Several hours later in the night, the disciples encounter a storm. Jesus comes to them, walking on the water. This terrifies the disciples who think they are seeing a ghost. Jesus says, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." Peter replies, "Lord, if it's you, tell me to come to you on the water." So Jesus invites Peter to come. Peter gets out of the boat and begins walking on the water toward Jesus. But when Peter takes his eyes off Jesus and sees the wind and waves, he begins to sink. Peter cries out to the Lord and Jesus immediately reaches out his hand and catches Peter. As they climb into the boat together, the storm ceases. Then the disciples worship Jesus, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."

Moses- Burning bush, passover, red sea, 10 commandments

BB- Moses went to the mountain of Horeb, saw a burning bush where God talked to Moses from. God told Moses he wanted him to free the Israelites from Egypt. Moses didn't believe that he was the right one for he had no power. God reassured him and gave instructions on what to do Pass.- Hebrews in Egypt were told to blood of a lamb on their door post in order to protect them from what was coming to Egyptians. God came to Egypt and he killed all the of the Egyptians firstborns. RS- when the Israelites and Moses were escaping from the pursuing Israelites, they came to a dead end at the red sea. Moses parted the red sea for them and they were able to get through. 10 C- God gave the people 10 rules to follow and live by and he scared them to instill a fear in God so people wouldn't sin.

John the Baptist

Parable of talents

Book of Matthew The master in this parable gives money to each of his slaves after he leaves. Then when he returns he rewards the 2 slaves that invested the money, but punishes the one who didn't

David- Goliath, Jonathan, Bathsheba, Absalom

G- purpose of the story meant to show that David was more fit to be king than Saul, represents an underdog story because David was much smaller than Goliath but was able to defeat him. J- Jonathan was son of Saul but David and him were good friends. They were both up for the crown but David got it, still didn't ruin friendship. B- David has sent the Israelite army while he stayed at home and sees a woman bathing on her roof. He finds out that the beautiful woman is Bathsheba. Even though she was married, he slept with her and got her pregnant. He was worried that people would find out about his sin of adultery and so he tried to cover it up. He had her husband killed in battle and she went to be his wife A- third son of David, said to be very handsome. Avenged his sister, Tamars, rape by their half brother, Amnon. HE turned against his father and led a revolt against him. Eventually he was killed against his fathers orders at the battle of Ephraims Woods

Mary and martha

Jesus and His disciples arrived at the home of Lazarus, Mary and Martha about mealtime. It was Martha who invited them in. Martha was trying to prepare the dinner and make sure everything was perfect, while mary was sitting oiling jesus's feet. Martha says 'Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.' And Jesus answered and said to her, 'Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken from her' " Hes basically saying chill out woman, Mary is doing her own thing by worshipping me, and I am more important than your dinner. Also you cant perfect everything, sometimes you just gotta leave it up to jesus.

Raising of Lazarus

Jesus is informed by messengers that Lazarus is ill, and his two sisters are seeking his help. Jesus tells his followers that he intends to wait for Lazarus to die, in order that God may be glorified. Jesus then delays for two days. The disciples are afraid of returning to Judea, but Jesus commands them to go with him.When they arrive in Bethany, Lazarus has been dead and buried for four days. Before they enter the town Martha, Lazarus' sister, comes to meet Jesus and tells him: "if you had been here, my brother would not have died". Jesus assures Martha that her brother will rise again .

Ahab and Jezebel

King and Queen of a northern part in Israel during a time of much evil. Jezebel was known for her evil actions and Ahab wanted to please her and helped worship her god even though it disgraced God. Jezebel apparently killed many prophets. the Prophet Elijah had the prophets of Jezebels religion killed and she had a death threat issued for him. both king and queen killed, according to Elijahs prophecy. Their bad behavior of worshiping other gods served as an example in the church.

Ruth and Naomi

Naomi's husband died and she was left to care for her two sons herself. One of her sons married a Moabite named Ruth. The sons died as well leaving Naomi with her two daughters in law. Naomi was going back to the land of Judah and told the girls to go back to their real mothers. One agreed and left but Ruth wanted to stay with Naomi. Naomi set up her relative Boaz and Ruth to be married.

White Sepulcher

Person who inwardly evil, but outwardly professes to be virtuous (hypocrite) Refers to the Pharisees

Samson- events with women and jawbone of an ass

Samson married a Philistine woman in order to spark a feud between him and the philistines, this is what God wanted him to do. Wife was given to his best man so he started setting fires to the land. he killed 1000 philistines with the jawbone of a donkey when they bound him and tried to turn him in for past crimes. Place became known as Ramath-lehi. Samson got help from a prostitute, Delilah, in escaping Gazites.

Feeding of the 5000

The Feeding of the 5,000 is also known as the "miracle of the five loaves and two fish" given that the Gospel of John reports that five barley loaves and two small fish supplied by a boy were used by Jesus to feed a multitude. According to the Gospels, when Jesus heard that John the Baptist had been killed, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place near Bethsaida. The crowds followed Jesus on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food." Jesus said they did not need to go away therefore the disciples were to give them something to eat. They said they only had five loaves of bread and two fish, then Jesus asked them to bring what they had to him. Jesus directed the people to sit down in groups on the grass. In Mark's Gospel the crowds sat in groups of 50 and 100, and in Luke's Gospel, Jesus' instructions were to seat the crowd in groups of 50,[3] implying that there were 100 such groups. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve baskets full of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, beside women and children.

Parable of the prodigal son

a father has two sons. The younger son asks for his inheritance before the father dies, and the father agrees. The younger son, after wasting his fortune (the word "prodigal" means "wastefully extravagant"), goes hungry during a famine, and becomes so destitute he longs to eat the same food given to hogs, unclean animals in Jewish culture. He then returns home with the intention of repenting and begging his father to be one of his hired servants, expecting his relationship with his father is likely severed. Regardless, the father finds him on the road and immediately welcomes him back as his son and holds a feast to celebrate his return, which includes killing a fattened calf usually reserved for special occasions. The older son refuses to participate, stating that in all the time he has worked for the father, he never disobeyed him; yet, he did not even receive a goat to celebrate with his friends. The father reminds the older son that the son has always been with him and everything the father has is the older son's (his inheritance). But, they should still celebrate the return of the younger son because he was lost and is now found. This is in Luke

King Saul

appointed by Samuel as the first king of Israel and Judah. Meets the prophets because he was divinely appointed. He was victorious in battles; he fought the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Aram Rehob, kings of Zobah, Philistines, and Amalekites. Before one battle Saul didn't listen to Samuels instructions so he is rejected as king. Saul killed himself in battle with the Philistines.
