Text effects

add a distinctive appearance to selected text, such as outline, shadow, glow, and reflection.

Point size

refers to the height of characters, with one point equally approximately 1/72 of an inch. Fonts are measured in points.

Sans serif

type of proportional font one that does not have the small line extensions on its character. Arial and Calibri are examples.

Font

is the same as a typeface that applies a style to characters. Each font has a unique name, such as Times New Roman. The default font is Calibri.

Monospaced font

Courier New is an example which means proportional space take up the same amount of horizontal space.

Proportional font

Times New Roman is an example because the horizontal space varies.

Character

a single letter, number, symbol, or punctuation mark. When formatting you use a font to change the text appearance.

Character styles

are applied to individual characters or words that you select. Character styles have a lowercase letter a beside them.

Paragraph styles

styles created for paragraphs are marked in the Styles pane be a paragraph mark to the right of the style name. When you choose paragraph styles, the formats are applied instantly to all text in the paragraph where the insertion point is located, whether or not the text is selected.

Proportional space

take up the same amount of horizontal space.

Serif fonts

type of proportional fonts have small lines at the beginning and end of characters and are usually used with large amounts of text. Times New Roman and Courier New are examples.
