Airborne precautions
pathogens spread via air currents (ventilation systems, sweeping, shaking sheets). Wear same as those for contact PLUS N-95 mask. Mask for pt when transported, negative pressure room.
transmission-based precautions
used for known/suspected patients colonized with infectious diseases. Used in conjunction with standard percaution

Contact percautions
Pathogen spread through direct contact. Sources of infection: draining, wounds, secretions, supplies. Possible private room; clean gloves/gown use.
