What is required for the cell to complete any process?

ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is the cellular energy needed for the cell to function. ATP has three bonds between each phosphate. When the bond between the second and third phosphate is broken, energy is released for the cell to use. ATP is then converted to ADP, which has less stored energy due to the molecule having only two bonds between phosphate groups now. When a phosphate group is added to ADP it is converted back to a higher energy molecule of ATP.

How does anaerobic cellular respiration differ from aerobic cellular respiration?

Aerobic = requires oxygen. Anaerobic = does not require oxygen. Anaerobic cellular respiration is also called fermentation. Alcoholic fermentation occurs with bacteria and yeast organisms. It produces ethyl alcohol and only a small amount of ATP. Lactic acid fermentation occurs in muscle cells of animals and produces lactic acid (causes muscle soreness) and only a small amount of ATP.

What kinds of organisms perform cellular respiration?

Cellular respiration occurs in all living organisms

Describe the differences in functioning between the mitochondria and the chloroplast.

Chloroplasts absorb energy and build carbon-based molecules (glucose), and mitochondria break down carbon-based molecules (glucose) to release energy. Chloroplasts are only found in plants, some bacteria, and some protists (autotrophs). Mitochondria are found in all eukaryotic cells (plants, animals, fungi, and Protists). Chloroplasts are the site of photosynthesis. Mitochondria are the site of aerobic cellular respiration.

How is energy converted and stored in the process of cellular respiration?

In cellular respiration, sugar (glucose) and oxygen molecules are broken down into carbon dioxide and water, and energy is transferred and stored in a form of energy cells can use (ATP).

What are the reactants and products of cellular respiration?

In cellular respiration, sugar (glucose) and oxygen molecules are broken down into carbon dioxide and water, and energy is transferred and stored in a form of energy cells can use (ATP).

What are the reactants and the products of photosynthesis?

In photosynthesis, light energy is converted to stored chemical energy when autotrophs convert carbon dioxide and water into sugar and release oxygen.

How is energy converted and stored in the process of photosynthesis?

In photosynthesis, light energy is converted to stored chemical energy when autotrophs convert carbon dioxide and water into sugar and released oxygen.

What kinds of organisms perform photosynthesis?

Plants, Bacteria, and Protists

How are the reactants and products of photosynthesis and cellular respiration related?

The process of photosynthesis and cellular respiration form a cycle. The inputs for photosynthesis (CO2, H2O, and sunlight energy) are like the outputs for cellular respiration (CO2, H2O, and ATP energy). The outputs for photosynthesis (C6H12O6 and O2) are the same as the inputs for cellular respiration. This details how all living organisms, and their cellular processes work together to function.
