In order to keep their knowledge of the missiles secret from the Soviets and the American public, Kennedy organized trusted advisors to help him manage the crisis and the group was known as Executive Committee of the National Council or ExComm. ExComm was significant as they considered the options for removing the Soviet missiles from Cuba and the discussion produced distinct choices for US actions (ranging from diplomatic to military assault). At the end, President Kennedy decided on a blockade of Cuba by the US Navy to prevent further shipment of the military supplies to the island.
