Gustav Klimt

A Belgian Art Nouveau artist that one of the most influential leaders of the movement. He originally focused his studies and interests in Impressionism, but abandoned it for Symbolism. At one point, he found an end to the easel and moved toward industrial art. "Tropon" was one of his most known advertisement posters which lead to serious of artists taking after him.

Henry van de Velde

A Belgian Art Nouveau artist that one of the most influential leaders of the movement. He originally focused his studies and interests in Impressionism, but abandoned it for Symbolism. Alphonse Mucha

A Czech Art Nouveau artist who was best known for his distinct style. Most of his known works were illustrations, postcards, and advertisements. Two of his most famous works are "Job Cigarettes " and "Dance."

Edvard Munch

A Norwegian Expressionist and Symbolist painter whose work was sometimes deeply engrossed with death, grief, and illness. "The Scream" is one of his most known paintings that is widely recognized.

Aubrey Beardsley

A young English Art Nouveau artist that used elaborate ornate stylization in black and white. His work emphasized the decadent, grotesque, and erotic. One of his most famous works was "Salome with the Head of John the Baptist."

Louis Comfort Tiffany

An American artist and designer who was associated with the Art Nouveau movement and Aesthetic movement. He was greatly known for his Favrile glass (stained glass) lamps that were industrially manufactured.

Josef Hoffmann

He is an Austrian architect and designer of consumer goods. He designed the "Palais Stoclet" in Brussels which holds some of Gustav Klimt's work inside. The exterior of the building is flat, rectangular and not ornate; however, the interior is decorated and embellished with Art Nouveau influence.

Art Nouveau

In French, it is translated as "new art." It is an early nineteenth century movement that established an international style focused on the decorative arts (ornate patterns, curvilinear lines, plant/natural motifs).

Antoni Gaudí

Influenced by Romantic and Symbolist concepts, this Spanish artist works emphasized nature, religion, and architecture. He was part of the Catalan Modernist Movement in Spain. The "Church of the Sagrada Familia" was one of his most known architectural works that is still in progress. It is estimated to be completed around 2026-2028.
