-Say what you mean; be clear and direct -Dont be disrespectful -Sometimes what you say isn't as important as how you say it (tone of voice) -When dealing with touchy serious situations use "I" message

-Start with : I feel -Create a "when" part to the message -Let them know your concerns "because" -Create a "wish" statement to let them know what your expectations are -NEVER USE "YOU" STATEMENTS

-To communicate effectively, listen -Use "active listening" skills whenever possible -Don't interrupt -Show interest -Restate what you hear -Ask questions -Show empathy

Body language communications through gesture, facial, behaviors, posture, nodding, slouching, turning away, can show emotion, embarrassment, mixed messages
