Triangle Proportionality Theorem
If a line parallel to one side of a triangle intersects the other two sides, then it divides the two sides proportionally.
If 1 < x < 2, simplify |x − 1| + |x − 2|
If x > 1, then the quantity (x - 1) is positive, so |x - 1| = x - 1. If x < 2, the quantity (x - 2) is negative, so |x - 2| = -(x - 2) = 2 - x. Therefore, for any value of x between 1 and 2: |x − 1| + |x − 2| = (x − 1) + (2 − x) = 1
