The braceros were Mexican men who migrated to the United States to work in the fields, and then returned to their families when their work was not needed. Many traveled back and forth between Mexico and the United States year after year.

Why were African Americans left behind during the economic boom of the 1950s?

The jobs that African Americans held during World War II soon disappeared or moved to the suburbs. However, African Americans were not as mobile as whites, because housing restrictions often kept them from relocating to the suburbs.
