converting percentages to decimals

absolute frequency

the absolute frequency is the TOTAL number of values for the variable being measured. In a class of 23 students, the absolute frequency is 23.

relative frequency (calculated as a percentage)

calculating variance

variance is a measure of how different the values are from each other. -to calculate the variance, we need to first obtain the mean. Ex: 82+81+79+85+83=410, 410 divided by 5 = 82. Next determine what the difference is between each score and the mean for all scores. Then SQUARE each sum and add them together. The sum is 20, so then the last step is to divide the sum by 5 which equals 4. The variance is 4. *IF ALL THE SCORES ARE THE SAME, THE VARIANCE WOULD BE ZERO*
