MTS 110 - Content Development
How many stages are there in PPP-based curriculum development?
7
What is contained in a Resource Requirements List (RRL)?
A composite listing of all the materials, facilities, manpower, and funding needed to conduct a training course.
Explain the purpose to pilot a course.
A pilot serves to validate a curriculum and its supporting materials. The pilot course Develop phase includes formal approval for the course for instruction and placing it online.
List and discuss the triggers for developing, revising, or canceling a course.
Adoption of a new training course, revision that changes instructional strategy, revision that changes course length, revision that increases resource requirements, deletion of a training requirement, transfer between CCAs, addition/deletion of CDP.
Identify when job sheet development should begin in the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) process.
As soon as the TPS is done to ensure that skills drive—or force—content of the curriculum
Discuss the types of courses listed in a Training Path Chart (TPC)
Background Training (Prerequisite; basic technical knowledge/skills), Replacement Training (prepares new personnel for first assignment), Formal School Training (formal school training to provide with minimum required operational/maintenance quals), Conversion Training (given to cover new/modified system/subsystem/equipment), Advanced Training (follows replacement/conversion training to complete TOS coverage), Onboard Training (training aboard ship)
Define the three "Task Sets"
Coordinator - Overall authority/responsibility (CO/XO, system manager, etc.); Director - Direct supervisor (Department head, division officer, LPO); Performer - One who does the hands-on work of operating and/or maintaining the system/subsystem/equipment
Discuss the outcome of the Instructional Media Design Package (IMDP)
Detail and demonstrate the design intent for each module and lesson within a course and to describe how the course will achieve the intended learning.
Define DP
Discussion Point
Define DDA Page
Discussion-Demonstration-Activity Page
Define EO
Enabling Objective
What documents are contained in the final Training Course Control Document (TCCD)?
Front matter, COI, Annexes
List the minimum sections of a Trainee Guide
Front matter, instruction sheets
List the minimum sections of a Lesson Plan
Front matter, lesson topics
Define IMM/VI
Instructional Media Materials/Visual Information
Discuss the purpose of Instructional Media Materials (IMMs)
Instructional materials that present a body of info and are largely self-supporting rather than supplementary in the teaching/learning process. These materials have applications for independent study/skill acquisition
Discuss the three variations of a course hierarchy which can be developed within the ILE.
Instructor-Led Training (ILT), IMI Module NEL-LMS Delivered, ILT Lesson IMI Module NEL-LMS Delivered
List the three types of training materials provided by Integrated Learning Environment (ILE).
Instructor-led, Interactive Multimedia Instruction (IMI), Blended
Discuss the purpose of the Evaluate phase.
Internal assessment of training methods, materials, and external feedback of performance of graduates in the fleet.
Discuss what a CTTL gives the curriculum developer
Job, Duty, Task, Learning Objectives
Define LP
Lesson Plan
Discuss the item(s) developed in the Develop phase.
Lesson Plan, Trainee Guide, Test Items, IMM
State the purpose of the Course Training Task List (CTTL)
Lists the duties and tasks for a given course, sources for the duties and tasks, and associated knowledge, skills, abilities, tools and resources (KSATR). The CTTL is used to develop LOs during the design phase. PPP may be used in place of the CTTL if the CTTL does not apply.
Discuss where to find the procedures for handling and storing classified training materials.
OPNAVINST 5510.1 (series)
Discuss the seven stages of PPP-based curriculum development
Planning (resources requirement/sequence of events), Stage 1 (determine job tasks, supporting skills, knowledge; level of performance), Stage 2 (skills/knowledge which must be taught and produces course LOs and learning sequence), Stage 3 (instructional materials), Stage 4 (CCA approved course for pilot, ends with Course Pilot Monitoring Report), Stage 5 (begins after incorporation of results of pilot into smooth curriculum/management materials, ends with CCA's LoP), Evaluation (surveillance, evaluation, change/revision of materials)
Discuss the seven phases utilized to develop a course within the ILE.
Planning, Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation, and Lifecycle Maintenance
Define RIA
Related Instructor Activity
Discuss the purpose of the Implementation phase.
Resolve any discrepancies identified in the pilot training course and implement the course by issuance of the CCA's letter of promulgation.
What annexes are included in the final TCCD?
Resource Requirements, Time Allocations, other items
What are the triggers and process for converting PPP-based curriculum to task-based curriculum?
Revision or outdated system in a course where training only needs to be knowledge- or task-based.
Describe what is required of a skill and knowledge learning objective.
Skill shows ability to follow through (performance), knowledge shows familiarity with item(s).
State and discuss TOS codes for both knowledge and skill
Skill: S-Skill (Background), J-Task/function, O-Operation, P-Preventative Maintenance, C-Corrective Maintenance, M-Maintenance; Knowledge: F-Familiarization, T-Theory, number for TOS codes for skil/knowledge are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4
State the difference between the Course Mission Statement and a Terminal Objective.
TO relates to trainee behavior, while the Course Mission Statement is descriptive of the course as opposed to the trainee
Define TO
Terminal Objective
State the purpose of testing.
Tests are thre primary tool for determining trainee attainment of the TOs/EOs, and therefore, his/her relative success in the course. Progress/Comprehensive tests are considered formal, and critical LOs are always formally tested
Discuss the item(s) developed in the Analyze phase.
The Course Training Task List (CTTL), containing jobs/duties, is the output from the Analyze phase and serves as the building block of the new/revised course.
Discuss the item(s) developed in the Plan phase of TBCD (Task-Based Curriculum Development).
The TPP is the output of the Plan phase of TBCD and is the blueprint for the development of a new course or revision of an existing one.
Discuss the item(s) developed in the Design phase.
The Training Course Control Document (TCCD) is the output and contains Front Matter, Curriculum Outline of Instruction (COI), and Annexes.
Discus the products of the Training Path Systems (TPS) Stage 1
Training Objective Statements (TOS) - skills/knowledge to be learned by individual; Training Level Assignments - specific PPP line items to be taught, training environment, level of training to be provided to each PPP line item; Table Assignment Matrix (TAM) - summarizes training requirements for PPP tables listed on the Training Path Chart (TPC); Training Path Chart (TPC) - graphically shows a complete training path for a category of people by listing courses in the path and PPP tables covered by each
