Terra Cotta
A form of clay that hardens to keep a shape
Great Wall of China
A fortification 1,500 miles long built across northern China in the 3rd century BC, built in Qin dynasty by Shi Huangdi; prisoners worked on it and when they died they were added as fill. This was built to keep invaders out.
Terra cotta army
A group over 8000 clay soldiers with weapons, wagons, etc. built on Emperor Qin's order to guard his tomb in the afterlife. These were found in Emperor Qin's tomb.
Legalism
Chinese philosophy developed by Hanfeizi; taught that humans are naturally evil and therefore need to be ruled by harsh laws. This philosophy most influenced Qin's rule. Qin believed that if a rich person and a poor person committed the same crime, the two would suffer the same punishment.
