Outline and evaluate a variety of fitness tests.

Aerobic capacity - beep test, Cooper's 12 minute test, Harvard step test Flexibility - sit and reach Muscle endurance - maximum sit-ups, maximum push-ups, flexed arm hang. Agility - Illnois agility test Strength - hand grip dynamometer Speed - 40 metre sprint Body composition - body mass index, anthropometry and underwater weighing Balance - stork stand Coordination - hand ball toss Reaction time - drop test, computer simulation Power - vertical jump, standing broad jump Validity: Refers to how well a test measures what it is suppose to measure. Consider reliability: Refers to how consistent the results are.

Distinguish between the concepts of health-related fitness and performance-related fitness. (the major components of fitness)

Health-related fitness includes body composition, cardio-respiratory fitness (aerobic capacity), flexibility, muscular endurance, strength. Performance-related (skill related) fitness includes agility, balance, coordination, power, reaction time and speed.

Outline body composition.

Relates to the proportion of an individual's total body mass that is made up of fat and fat-free mass.

Outline strength as a component of fitness.

Strength is defined as the ability to generate force by a muscle or muscle group.

Outline muscular endurance.

The ability of a muscle or muscle group to maintain force or power.

Outline flexibility.

The ability to move through the full range of movement around a joint.

Outline agility.

The ability to rapidly change direction or speed.

Outline cardio-respiratory fitness.

The ability to take in, deliver and use oxygen for use by the aerobic or oxidative energy system. It's characterised by an individual's maximal uptake (VO2 max).

Outline speed as a component of fitness.

The change of distance with respect to time when movement occurs. This could refer to whole body speed, or speed of a particular joint or muscle group, depending of the context of sport and exercise.

Outline reaction time.

The duration between the presentation of a stimulus and the associated response.

Outline power as a component of fitness.

The rate of doing work. Functionally, it represents the combination of force and velocity or strength and speed.

Outline balance.

The stability of the body.
