Mixture Vocabulary
Colloids
A heterogeneous mixture consisting of tiny particles that are intermediate in size between those in solutions and those in suspensions and that are suspended in a liquid, solid, or gas.
Suspensions
A heterogeneous mixture in which particles of a material are more or less evenly dispersed throughout a liquid. The particles in a suspension settle out when the mixture is allowed to stand. The components of a suspension are immiscible.
Solutions
A homogeneous mixture where the smallest particles of one substance (solute) are uniformly spread among similar particles of another substance (solvent). The components of mixtures such as this are miscible and do not form layers.
Mixture
A substance that is not pure and can be separated into its components.
Emulsions
A type of colloid where liquids that normally do not mix kept together by another ingredient

Homogeneous Mixtures
The components are evenly distributed and the mixture is the same throughout.
