occurs when a defect or disability is permanent and irreversible. It involves minimizing the effects of long-term disease or disability by interventions directed at preventing complications and deterioration.

Define the 3 levels of preventative care: A. Primary Prevention

true prevention, precedes disease or dysfunction and is applied to patients considered physically and emotionally healthy

Describe the Major Components of any nursing curriculum design: ENVIRONMENT

-faculty facilitate the teaching/learning process and that they are committed to the educational and professional development of the students -students and faculty are different in cultural and educational backgrounds that may enrich education -students learn by active participation -the teaching/learning environment is systematically evaluated by students, faculty, administration and the community and curriculum changes reflect the ongoing evaluation process and progress to education, technology and health care practice.

Describe the Major Components of any nursing curriculum design: HEALTH

-its a dynamic state of being in which the psychological, physical, spiritual, environmental and cultural needs of an individual, family, or community are met -Each individual moves along a wellness/illness continuum and possesses various strengths and limitations that affect the ability to meet basic needs. -Failure to adequately meet any of these needs may create a health problem that the individual, family, and/or community may require assistance from the health care system -Absence from disease

Describe the Major Components of any nursing curriculum design: NURSING

-its unique function is to assist individuals during all stages of development to achieve optimal health -the nursing process is used in health promotion and maintenance -takes place in any environment in which a systematic approach to diagnosing and treating an individual is applied. -decisions are based on critical thinking with regard to the needs of each patient, family or community -integral to the health care system at performing independent, collaborative, and dependent functions

Nursing Process

1. Assess 2. Diagnose 3. Plan 4. Implement 5. Evaluate

List and explain each step of the nursing process in the appropriate sequence

1. Assess: gather information about the patients condition 2. Diagnose: identify the patients problems 3. Plan: set goals of care and desired outcomes and identify appropriate nursing actions 4. Implement: perform the nursing actions identified in planning 5. Evaluate: Determine if goals and expected outcomes are achieved

What are Maslow's hierarchy of needs and its relationship to CCM's organizing framework?

1. Physiological 2. Safety 3. Love & Belonging 4. Esteem 5. Self Actualization Maslow's hierarchy of needs is relative to CCM's organizing framework in the fact that CCM's nursing program recognizes the basic needs of the PERSON during its approach to Nursing in relationship to Maslow's Theory identifying that if any of the patients needs are not met it may constitute illness.

Define each part of the P-E-R-S-O-N acronym and discuss its relationship to man.

P-E-R-S-O-N defines the basic human physiological needs: Psychosocial: Describes a person's psychological development in the context of one's social environment. Excretion: Elimination of metabolic wastes Rest & Activity: Human need for sleep and movement Safe Environment: Basic needs for safety to live Oxygen: The need for breathable air and to breath in Oxygen for life Nutrition: Obtained from food and used by our bodies for growth and maintaining good health. Since these are pretty basic physiological needs if one or more of these are unmet illness or disease may become present.

P-Psychosocial E- Elimination R-Rest & Activity S-Safe Environment O-Oxygen N-Nutrition

Describe the "Basic Human Needs Model" and its relationship to CCM's organizing framework

The Basic Human Needs Model occurs through the use of the acronym P-E-R-S-O-N. It serves to treat the patient on a holistic level considering their physical, emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, and cultural stresses and their impact on the whole patient. Illness may develop when a Basic Human Need is unmet.

Explain the Philosophy of the CCM Nursing Program

The CCM Nursing Program philosophy focuses on the person, the patient, The nurse, the faculty and the student. With regards the the person the philosophy recognizes that each person evolves differently based on their values, beliefs, and motives which impact their daily life. It recognizes that each persons health is formed upon their physiological, physical, spiritual, environment and cultural aspects of their life. The second focus in the CCM nursing philosophy is Health, as well as the patients basic needs and rights. It recognizes that each person moves along a wellness-illness continuum in search of meeting their basic needs. When these needs are not met the person utilizes the health care system. Nursing is meant to assist individuals via diagnostic and treatment aspects on the path of the wellness-illness continuum using critical thinking based on the patients needs. CCM's philosophy regarding the Faculty and Student is that the faculty has come up with avenues for each different type of learner/ student to succeed in this program as well as make changes to the curriculum as technology and research progress. It also describes the students responsibility to be an active learner and participate in the carefully planned curriculum. It is CCM's goal to produce competent, well rounded, responsible and caring nurses who are educated in the community.

Wellness-Illness Continuum

The range of a persons total health. It's ever-changing and influenced by a person's physical, mental, and social well-being. Each individual moves through it and possesses various strengths and limitations that affect ability to meet needs

Define the Nursing Process.

a critical thinking process that professional nurses use to apply the best available evidence to caregiving and promoting human functions and responses to health and illness. It is the fundamental blueprint for how to care for patients. It is also a standard of practice, which, when followed correctly protects nurses against legal problems related to nursing care.
